For All you Golfers out there
Proposals have been unveiled for the biggest shake-up of the rules of golf "in a generation".

If the Royal and Ancient and United States Golf Association plans are adopted, golfers will see significant shifts in how the sport is played.

They include:

• Remove any penalty for accidentally moving your ball.
• Relax the protocols for taking free or penalty drops, with the ball dropped from only an inch above the ground, rather than shoulder height.
• Use fixed distances (20 or 80 inches) rather than club lengths to measure areas where a ball should be dropped.
• Reduce the time allowed to search for a lost ball from five to three minutes.
• Allow putting on the green with the flagstick left in the hole.
• Allow players to repair spike marks and animal damage on greens.
• Automatically allow the use of distance measuring devices.
• Ban caddies from lining up players as they prepare to hit.
• Recommend no player takes more than 40 seconds to hit a shot.
• Encourage players in strokeplay to implement "ready golf" rather than waiting until it is their turn to hit.
• Empower committees to set a maximum score for a hole (such as double par or triple bogey) to allow a player to pick up and move to the next hole.

Re: For All you Golfers out there
It's all a bit pikey spending ages looking for balls
If you've hit it somewhere grim a cursory look then get on with it
Like Carroll searching round row z for the ball

Re: For All you Golfers out there
I'm not convinced that any of these changes will speed up play apart from in the pro game.
I can't see amateurs timing one another when they're preparing to play a shot, but there's no way the pro's will get away with faffing about for two or three minutes whilst they converse with their caddy, throw grass in the air, change the club selection etc etc.
In fact one thing that could slow things down is allowing everyone to fuck about with laser distance measurer's. Introducing technology onto the course seems to go against what sport is supposed to be about. What next, some kind of laser putt reading device?

Re: For All you Golfers out there
miike, we used to do that (go out as the sun was coming up), when i was a member at toot hill, a 3 hour round tops, then we joined the
bentley, tried to do the same, but all the wankers turned up going off the 10th, so you'd do the 1st 9 in 1 1/2 hours, then bosh 3 hours on the back 9, needless to say we didnt renew there

I imagine the hardest thing about golf is telling your wife and children you are a massive bender.

OOB, should not cause any confusion. Replay the shot and take a one shot penalty. Thus if you hit out of bounds off the tee take another shot from the tee which will be your third.

Re: For All you Golfers out there
Apart from the moving ball penalty, as far as I can see all these measures are designed to speed up the game.

I think there is a case for simplifying some of the more complex rulings as well. Most casual club golfers I've played with get very confused with the various OOB's and Lateral Water Hazard rulings.

mike, its got to the stage where I try to be the first on course whenever I play now but I still get fucked as loads of the members go off the 10th so I still get lumbered behind the tortoise cunts, hahahahaha

Re: For All you Golfers out there
mike a man after my own heart, slow play really grates my shit, and not repairing pitchmarks

Re: For All you Golfers out there
Grumps, I've never cheated though have seen plenty do it. You're only cheating yourself

another moan is not repairing pitch marks, so easy to do but so many cant be bothered

Re: For All you Golfers out there
Jon, I like it at Orsett, nice course. I sound like a right misery but you honestly have to see how slow some of these characters can be on the simplest of shots. Another reason for packing it in was numerous fuckers on moody handicaps. cunts on 24 regularly shooting 42/43/44 pts in tournaments. I put in three mediocre cards for my hdcp and they gave me 14.5. hahaha, straight away fucking me, I'm not bitter though

Re: For All you Golfers out there
I play golf at Orsett and I have had an ankle operation and I am struggling big time since then. I like most of the changes proposed to be honest and slow play kills my club on Saturday. Lots of the below though fall into the unwritten rules that are already there like picking up when you can't score etc. Unless it is policed it will make not much difference but I am all for it. The sooner I am in the bar with my game on the course these days the better. I am thinking of biting the bullet and joining socially anyhow. Fore. COYI. Wibble. Stella. xxx

Re: For All you Golfers out there
Problem TK is that too many average joe's are obsessed with their scores and so take an age looking for balls etc.

I mean I'm shooting around the 100 mark, so as if I give a shit if I lose a shot through a lost ball.

Incredible how many mates I've played with who I've seen cheat as well. Sad fuckers.

Re: For All you Golfers out there
an example being, I played in a club championship and it took more than 6 hours to get round. slow players should be banned from clubs, also young blokes who use buggies wind me up. those things should be kept aside for rasberries and olduns, hire a fucking trolley you lazy cunts

Re: For All you Golfers out there
slow play is the biggest problem for casual players like myself. its the reason I hardly play now, and one of the reasons I gave up a membership

Re: For All you Golfers out there
It's about time these rules are updated, golf needs new blood and it's not a cheats charter if everyone plays to the same rule does it?

I think the point is the maximum you can score on a hole is double par. So you'll never be able to sign for worse than a 6 on a Par 3.

Makes sense to me.

Any Old Iron 11:25 Thu Mar 2
Re: For All you Golfers out there
Some of these changes I don't understand.
When it comes to having a maximum score on a hole, what happens when you're having the round of your life and you're par playing the last. You then have a disaster with a lost ball and run up a quadruple bogey, but - the club has deemed the hole to have a maximum of a double bogey. What the fuck do you sign for?

And allowing for a drop to made from one inch is just a cheats charter. I can see loads of blokes just placing it in the perfect lie.
